In recent years, properties in Spain have dropped considerably in price. This has led to many luxury homes becoming available at a price that is much more affordable than just five years ago. Spain is one of the most popular countries in the world for retirement. This is due to the beautiful weather this part of the world experiences, and many things are more affordable in Spain than in more northern parts of Europe. Spain is also very easy for people from the UK to visit, as most UK airports have several flights a day to various Spanish airports.
The most popular areas for expats are the Costa Del Sol and the Costa Blanca. The Costa Brava, while popular in the summer with holidaymakers can become quite cool in the winter, and most people who are looking to buy a property in the country go a little further south where winters are mild. On the Costa Blanca there are some beautiful resorts such as Javea, Denia and Altea; all very popular with expats.
You do not have to be on retirement age to move to Spain, as the number of holidaymakers and expats in the area means there is work for their fellow countrymen, particularly in the tourism sector. However, you should be aware that the hours you work are likely to be long, and the pay is somewhat lower than you would expect to earn in the UK.
